Calluses are dead layers of skin that have been subjected to strong pressure or friction. Although they may not hurt at first, as the calluses thicken, they can become painful. Fortunately, there are several simple ways to prevent their occurrence.

How to avoid the formation of calluses on the feet

Make sure that the shoes fit you

First, it is important to check whether your shoes fit correctly. Too large shoes can cause friction and discomfort, preventing you from walking normally. At the same time, tight shoes can lead to the formation of calluses. When buying new shoes, be sure to choose a slightly larger size, as the size of your feet may change with age.

Wear socks

Wearing shoes without socks can increase foot friction. That is why it is recommended to always wear socks with shoes – they guarantee that the shoes will sit correctly and the foot will not move inside the shoe.

Don’t wear sandals too often

Wearing sandals too often can lead to the formation of calluses for two main reasons. First, they allow your feet to slide and move, creating friction that leads to the formation of dead skin. And secondly, your feet are exposed to open air, which can dry them out.

Therefore, it is advisable to give preference to socks and closed shoes, as this will allow your skin to receive the moisture necessary to prevent the formation of calluses. If you still want to wear sandals, moisturize and exfoliate the skin of your feet at the end of the day, and be sure to give your feet a break from this type of shoe from time to time.

Take care of your feet

Exfoliating your feet with a mild scrub, pumice stone or washcloth can help your skin avoid calluses. Just don’t forget to let these foot care products dry and disinfect your feet regularly. In addition, replace the funds after 1-2 months of use. At the same time, moisturizing the feet can prevent the thickening of roughened skin and help the skin to self-clean from dead cells.
